smokey
« on: March 09, 2010, 03:27:38 PM »

Maybe I'm crazy, but my new engine is sending gobs of smoke out the exhaust. Like 3 times as much as before. I'm not running way rich, and my premix ratio is good with nice oil in it. No airleaks have been found yet.

Could it mean that i'm actually burning all the fuel that my engine is getting? Or would it mean the opposite? Or something entirely different?

What color is this smoke?

Could be a seal has gone and you are burning fluid from your transmission.  What kind of engine?

It's ciao so the clutch is dry...
Maybe you're just burning up some gasket flash? What was it sealed with?

nope, its official gasket paper holding it together. Smoke is white. and it's a ciao, so there's no tranny fluid to burn up.

I took it all apart today, and everything looks awesome inside the cylinder. super greasy, but clean with no muck deposits anywhere. I've only put 10 or so miles on this new engine so far, but theres no topend blowby or muck under the flywheel.

However, there was some black stuff that I believe is coming up from the exhaust. Its spring mounted, so maybe it wasnt' sealed all the way up against the cylinder??? Anyways I'm gonna throw another spring on the other side to make sure it's sealin up nice. If that doesn't cure the smokies, then I guess there isn't a problem...

yeah, sounds like your fully burning your mixture now, are you using Dino or Synthetic? And/Or yr pipe is hella clogged up and you're knocking all of that outta the way.

Top o' the line Maxima "low smoke" synthetic...i'll take a look in the pipe today,  especially since this oil is supposed to be so fine...everything else is %100 as far as i can tell.

I'm gonna lighten my weights up by a few grams and plug chop on a new colder plug today (oreilly's has NGKs!).

The second spring sealed up the exhaust well, and the smoke level is tolerable again.

Plug chops are light!!!! upjetted from 69 to 72...still light! hmmm.  gonna exaggerate it tomorrow and jump to 77 or something and start working my way down.

Threw the yellow spring back in the rear...better.

Lightened my weights even more, and it's better up hills, but I still get this feeling that as high as it's revving, I should be going faster. I get to my current top speed so fast, but then it just stops acclelerating and the engine keeps revving  high. Maybe I've reached the threshold and I just don't realize it since Im go from 0-37ish in a blockish.

With a variator, you can't get more top end with out sacrificing torque off the line, and vice versa right?
Someone else wanna come ride this thing sometime and tell me if i'm crazy or not?
