70cc K-Star Hiccups.

So, as with all things in the moped world, weird shit happened...

I shot the bearings on the AD Crank,
Jetting for the 19mm PHBG is significantly off, and I don't know how to work on it until I get my parts in and get money for jets.
I broke Mike's pedal shaft that I was using on the Maxi.

My plan is this, pull out and ride the Batavus for the time being.

Disassemble the Swinger 2 and Maxi.

Rebuild the Maxis Forks

Use the Swingers 2hp e-50 on the Maxi, with the 70cc K-Star (no case modifications though)

Fully disassemble and investigate the AD engine. Eventually bring it back to life with a full re-build

Let the Swinger rest on the shelf while I collect parts for the 50 Metra

Clean up the Maxi, assemble 1hp Puch with K-Star, 15mm or 17mm Bing

Winter is Coming.

So, the first annual Moktoberfest has come and gone, I think it went off pretty well. There was less of a turn out than I was hoping, but I understand it with us changing the date so late.

We left the ride with 3 Spare bikes and 18 Riders. By the time we reached Macklind Deli we had 1 Seized Bottom End, 1 Rubbing tire, 1 Torn up Piston, 1 Dirty Carb, and 1 other dead soldier.

Mud Moutain took out some tires, and boosted some confidence.
Myke said "You drive like mad men!"

IRE Home Brew (Red, Green, Blue) went over swimingly.

Which brings us to the cold weather, who has project bikes?

This is what I know so far...
Rick is mere MiliMeters away from his 50 on 50 Morini
Annie is building a Mini Magnum (now featuring new seals, bearings, and a full stuffed crank!)
Jimmy will be continuing work on his Lazer (right?!)
Mike will be making a Glow Maxi N (if it takes me all winter to convince him of it) and will be driving and enclosed moped (V-Dub!)
and I am going to be building a 50 on 50 J.C. Penney Swinger 2.

We've had a good summer, some losses - Ryne, Alex, Marks orignial colon - We miss you! But! We have had a lot of new additions (Matt 2, Phil, John Boy, John Shaner, and some I know I am missing in the state I am now)

Stay Tuned! St. Louis winters might be bitter cold, snowy, and my least favorite season, but I expect to see big things!

The 'Foxi Project'

Ok,

So I got sidetracked from my Lazer when Treats HQ put up thier 80cc Athena kit for the Sachs. I immediately purchaced that and a 21 mm Del and a Hom P4 pipe.

But all this = clutch slippage!

She will do 60+ if the clutch would not spin off the retaining nut at 50+!!!

Sooo At any rate here she is port matched and all, with a self governing clutch that wont allow 50+

A final thought.

I don't have pictures to show you guys, but the Pusche MK3 Sport is coming along swimingly. Sunday my plan is as follows:

1. Photograph the shit out of the bike for an update.
2. Start parting the Batavus for everything I need to finish putting together the Pusche.
-Wheels (full assembled)
-Flywheel
-Tank
-Purchase Mike's torsion bar
-Levers, cables, throttle assembly
3. Port the engine, make matching gaskets
4. Install 70cc kit, pipe, and a 15mm Bing, for the time being.

The next step:
1. Order the carb/intake/shit ton of jets from Treats
2. Take a step back, laugh at the Batavus (i've had enough with it for this month).
3. Prep for the 70mph ride on Malaguti's engine.

OK dissasembly reveals some bad bad stuff

So, In order to kit this bike properly, you must disassemble the entire engine to get at the weld points inside each housing. So I just start taking it apart and putting everything in some sort of order, and I split the case and find, whoa! The main bearings are shot! Not what I expected to find, the engine turrned perfectly! OK, so I found some bearings and seals and am awaiting shimpment.
Ok, Ill roll with it and Ill call the moped shop in Jersey that is going to port and weld my kit for me. They tell me the Imperial only lasts about 1000 mi and the labor is expensive. Its not the first time I had heard this about imperial kits, so I decide before I go any further I will return the Imperial kit and get a high quality kit from Treats HQ. Actually Treats will probably be where I get my Exhaust and Carb as well! So at any rate, as bad as I want a snap together Moped that will fire right up and scream like a scalded cat, it looks like Im a gonna have to take the long, route, but the well worth it route.null

Jimmys First kitting experience, oh the Insanity!

Ciao!

I am undertaking the unknown, in that, I am kitting my first Ped! The bike is an Itallian made 1978 Franco Morini Lazer. It came stock with a Fracno Morini M01, and I swapped it out for the M1, which I then promptly bought a kit for,...a 65cc Imperial. Only kit available for the M1.
When the kit arrived, I found that kits dont just 'bolt right up', in fact this one has to be TIG welded, and port matched. Im thinking of having Moped shop in NJ do this work. But kitting this is duanting, the ports are HUGE never-the-less, it should be sickningly fast. At first, I was like, skrew this, but now I realize Im must druge forth in order to make this project work, giving up is not an option.
My main goals are Torque, and Handeling. Cosmetcis are not important, it will be outfitted in the Ratbike tradition, with certain mindfull details towards asthetics.

Will keep you updated.Heres How it looked when I found it, dog and all....null

Small updates...

So, the blog hasn't been updated in a long, long time, obviously, but here are some quick 'minutes' if you will

+ We've been having bigger and bigger Fix-It Days every Sunday
+/- Mark & Danielle never gets any alone time because there is always someone there working on a bike. Remember to respect their graciousness for letting us use/abuse their properties guys!!!
+ Project bikes, Kits, Rallies, big talk!!
+ The alcoholics are brewing some beers!!!

- We've lost Ryne to KC, he's happy there but we miss his face, motron, and stories
- We've lost Alex to college, we hope he's happy there, and starts up a Moped Gang all of his own, but we want him back! Haha

Further plans?
Buffalo Boys rally.
Mike has secret projects
Tom has secret projects
Mark has (several) secret projects
The website is being updated, again.
Continue to grow, find mopeds, and get them to people who want to stay with us!

A little information about this project, and then onto some pictures... This is my first attempt with a kit, my first full rebuild, and my first Puch engine.
Frame: Full Rigid Puch Free Spirit, blue
Forks: Maxi Shocks, low end version

Here is the plan:
Engine: Athena 70cc Reed Valve or the Metra 65cc (both Torque engines). Case Matched, of course
Exhaust: Proma CC, Technigas Next, or Techno Estoril
Carb: 19/21mm Delorto PHBG
Wheels: 17" x 2.25" Puch 5 Stars (snowflakes if I have to)
Frame: It will be a rat bike, unless I decide on something nice like EBR Forks.
Tank: Swinger/Pinto 2 Tank.

Here are some pictures:

Engine, all set to go.

Mocked up frame.

Here is the latest progress:
Yesterday (8/10/2008) I assembled the engine, it is ready to be kitted all I have to do is afford it, and find it. The frame was mocked up with rebuilt Maxi forks, Rigid Puch Free Spirit Frame, and Dirt Bike Handle bars.

The next step:
Find my kit, magneto, misc. bolts, and the list goes on from there.
